An Elgin County OPP officer has been cleared by the province’s watch dog of any wrongdoing in relation to the injuries suffered by a man at a St. Thomas nursing home.

An investigation began after the June 22nd incident took place at the home. Police were called to the home because an elderly resident had become aggressive with staff and threatened them with a wood carving and an umbrella. The 86 year old man, who suffered from dementia was brought to his room by staff, but they were unable to administer medication to calm him and police and paramedics were called.

The SIU report states that the man swung an item at the officers, where he then lost his balance and as a result fell to the floor and fractured his hip.
