Canada’s Biggest Night in Music is in London, Ontario this year. 180 individuals are nominate and of those 80 are first time nominees; many were present tonight at the JUNO Gala Dinner and Awards. In advance of the Nationally televised broadcast happening tomorrow (Sunday March 17), many JUNO awards were already given out including Breakthrough Group of the Year which went to The Washboard Union.

Congrats David, Chris and Aaron! This is HUGE for them and Canadian country music for a couple of reasons. First, it’s a win in a category with nominees from all genres of music. Second, since 2003, no country group has won this award and only in the last few years have country groups even been nominated (like Cold Creek County in 2017 and James Barker Band in 2018). Congrats and thanks to Warner Music Canada’s Washboard Union for taking the music beyond the “borders” of country music!!! – Randy Owen
