Ontario’s Infrastructure Minister was in Simcoe yesterday to make a major funding announcement for the expansion of broadband internet to Southwestern Ontario.
Monte McNaughton announced the province is committing up to $63.6-million to Southwestern Integrated Fiber Technology or SWIFT, a non-profit corporation set-up by local municipalities to address connectivity in the region.
Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Keith Curry says “Reliable high-speed internet is vital to the success of our farms and the well being of families across Ontario”. Once connected, rural and small town families will be able to work remotely, access e-commerce, access health care and government services and connect with new customers and new markets.
