The Woodstock Police Service has laid charges in relation to a fire that rapidly spread through a Dundas Street business last evening.

Police report that Alexander WILLET, age 34 of Woodstock has been charged with the following:

 Arson contrary to section 433(a) of the Criminal Code

Police are reporting that WILLETT resided in one of the apartments located at 488 Dundas Street. WILLETT attempted to escape from the building through a window and he became injured. He was taken to Woodstock General Hospital for treatment.

WILLETT remains in custody.

No other persons were injured in the fire.

Police presence is still required at the scene of the fire. The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office and the Woodstock Fire Department. Police are requesting that any businesses or persons that may have video showing the area of 488 Dundas Street, are asked to make contact with Detective Constable Mike Haegens of the Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323.
