Late Monday evening, the OPP Norfolk County Detachment and Norfolk County Fire Department responded to a house fire located at a Concession 6, Townsend, Norfolk County address.

OPP officers arrived on scene and located a shed and residence on fire. Officers attempted to enter the home however were unable due to the smoke. A person was located on the property at which time they indicated that they had a firearm and then fled from the area.

OPP Canine Services along with members of the Emergency Response Team attended and were able to utilize an OPP Remote Piloted Aerial System. As a result, the individual was located and taken into custody without incident.

Attending firefighters continued to battle the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire and were able to prevent it from spreading to a nearby residence.

 

As a result, investigators charged 39-year-old Shawn Michael DREW of Norfolk County, Ontario with arson – damage to own property contrary to Section 434.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe at a later date.
