On Saturday, March 21, 2020, the Ontario Provincial Police, Norfolk County Detachment investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from an Ann Street, Delhi, Norfolk County address.

It was determined that an individual known to the victim attended their residence and removed a vehicle from the driveway. The owner observed their vehicle leave the area at a high rate of speed westbound on Ann Street.

At approximately 9:03 a.m., officers patrolling the area located the vehicle travelling on Brantford Road after a report of a break and enter in progress. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver failed to stop and rammed the police vehicle causing significant damage to the cruiser and stolen vehicle. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Later that morning, officers with the Brantford Police Service located the vehicle unoccupied at an address in Brantford, Ontario.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2020., an officer on patrol observed the suspect involved in these incidents and took them into custody without incident.

As a result, police charged 36-year-old Nicholas Christopher SAWADSKI of Norfolk County, Ontario with the following offences:

 

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Break and enter
  • Dangerous operation
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order

 

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe at a later date.
