Meet Franklin! Franklin is a 1 year old Redbone Coonhoune/Labrador Retriever mix.

This young man loves his people and sadly they weren’t able to keep him due to changing life circumstances. He is adjusting well to life in his foster home, but needs to work on some manners to learn his place in the pack. He needs a very firm alpha to take charge, or he will gladly try to! He loves to run in his fenced yard and squirrels and bunnies no longer visit as he immediately and vocally displays his hunting ability. He does not fetch and really has no interest in returning a thrown item to you. He has no recall off leash, but does come running to the sound of a squeaker toy inside the fenced yard.
He must have a gentle leader for control on walks, or his nose leads him astray. He is leash reactive with other dogs and will try to pull you to the other dog or human and is very strong and difficult to control once he has decided he wants to meet. He should NOT go to a house with cats, as he chases them while barking loudly and does not fear them at all. The cats in his foster home avoid him mostly, and we really aren’t sure what he would do if he was able to catch them.

He is very playful and is always engaging his senior foster brother in play, sometimes too roughly. He destroys anything fabric given as a toy (but doesn’t eat the fabric), but will chew hard, indestructible toys happily for hours and bring them to you to hold for him. He will easily give up something he has found to chew that is not his.

He responds well to commands, but sometimes likes to pretend he didn’t hear the request and needs to be reminded of his task. He sits, goes to place, and comes when indoors. We are working on leave it, though, not very successfully from his standpoint. He is extremely food motivated and has no issue trying to jump up to steal your dinner.
He has the sweetest brown eyes that look into your soul and loves kisses and, he loves to cuddle up in your lap. He loves positive reinforcement and is remorseful if he’s been naughty and will go right to his bed for his own time out.

He was in a home with children previously, but it’s still recommended that children be over 10 as sometimes he’s a little too boisterous and may accidentally knock younger children down when excited.
He has been flea treated and dewormed, neutered, is microchipped and up to date on his vaccines.
