Brett Young can thank his sister, Shawna, for getting him into country music.

When they were kids, whoever sat in the car’s front passenger seat had control of the radio.

He says,

“Well, my sister didn’t like when I got the front seat, so she would kick the back of it. As an annoying younger brother, the only thing I knew to do — and she hated country — I would find the one [country] station that we had in Southern California, and just crank it to bug her.”

Once he heard Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl,” he was hooked on country music.

Brett just released his fourth studio album, Across the Sheets. (People)
