According to today’s data release from Southwestern Public Health, which covers the area of Oxford and Elgin counties, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the area is starting to decline, not only from day-to-day, but also slightly from week-to-week. The total number of cases as of today is at 44 with 4 cases apparently resolved. That’s down from 48 a day ago, and down from 49 total cases a week ago.

There were a dozen coronavirus cases in Oxford County a week ago. Yesterday’s total of 43 is now down to 39. In Woodstock, 2 resolved cases have resulted in the total there dropping from 17 to 15. Norwich has gone from 11 to 10 cases, while South-West Oxford drops from 4 to 3 active cases. Ingersoll still has 3 cases, while Blandford-Blenheim, Tillsonburg, East-Zorra Tavistock and Zorra are still reporting two cases each.

There has been no change in Elgin County from yesterday. The county’s 5 cases are made up of 4 cases in Aylmer and 1 in St. Thomas. One week ago, Elgin had 37 cases.

After resolving the Bayham farm cases from over a week ago, Southwestern Public Health is reporting on the Norwich cases. This week, Rehoboth Christian School voluntarily closed after a number of cases were reported there. And Southwestern Public Health has declared an outbreak at Bethany Care Home in Norwich involving 1 resident. Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Joyce Lock, says, “There is not one source of transmission or one event to explain this increase in cases.”
