Two concerning incidents on Highway 401 are prompting a warning from the Oxford and Middlesex Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

In the first occurrence, just before 4:30 p.m. on February 24, 2021, the Oxford County OPP received a report of a set of dual tires from a transport truck found in the ditch on Highway 401, in Blandford-Blenheim Township. The vehicle that was missing the tires was not located, and there were no injuries reported from this incident.

In the second incident, just before 7:00 p.m. on February 24, 2021, Middlesex County OPP responded after a tractor trailer travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Westchester Bourne was struck in the windshield by a tire that flew off of a vehicle from the westbound lanes. There were no injuries as a result of the collision, and the vehicle that lost the tire was not located.

The OPP wants to remind drivers, especially those operating commercial motor vehicles (CMV), to ensure daily inspections are completed. The safety of everyone on the road depends on it. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads. The OPP will continue to work with CMV drivers to aim to reduce the number of CMV-related collisions and resulting deaths and injuries on OPP-patrolled roads.

Anyone with information about this or any incident is asked to contact the Oxford County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.oxfordcrimestoppers.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
